Each year, Call of Duty takes its base formula and evolves it with new ideas and concepts. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is doing the same, but on an intergalactic level.
For Infinity Ward, their first crack at Call of Duty on PS4 and Xbox One came in the form of Call of Duty: Ghosts. Since then, the series has moved from boots on the ground gameplay, to a combination of that and boost-jumping action.
It is easy to look at Call of Duty: Ghosts and Infinite Warfare and come up with superficial reasons for why they are different from one another. To go deeper and find out what has changed from game-to-game, We Write Things was able to talk with Infinity Ward themselves.
“There have been many technical advancements and we’ve learned a lot since we shipped Ghosts. Our multiplayer this year was our first built with a three-year development cycle and this has allowed us to refine and hone in on what’s best for individual play styles.
“That’s the biggest thing people will recognize as they play Infinite Warfare multiplayer – just how customizable the Combat Rigs are and all the ways the game can be tailored to suit your distinct play style,” Eric Monacelli, Director of Communications at Infinity Ward, said.
To name a few more things that are different just look at the sub-franchise, lead protagonist and setting, all of which are new in Infinite Warfare. Additionally, Ghosts did not feature the boost jumping multiplayer that Advanced Warfare introduced. This will be the first time we see Infinity Ward put their spin on the concept.
Light-oriented weapons have been a prominently featured item in the past two Call of Duty games. For Infinite Warfare, Infinity Ward wanted to implement fun, fictional weapons while still making sure they felt somewhat grounded.
“We have directed energy weapons in the game but the concept of lasers in the traditional, pew-pew, sci-fi sense is absent from our game. We wanted to ensure all our weapons feel and sound grounded in the familiar vein of modern ballistic weapons.
“That doesn’t mean we don’t have some amazingly cool, semi-fictional future tech used in our weaponry to make weapons that are truly unique. All the weaponry is grounded in research and various design schematics that make up current or future weapons of war,” Monacelli said.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is only a matter of days away from releasing. Gamers will get to finally experience the game when it launches on Nov. 4 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Stick around here at We Write Things for more from our chat with Infinity Ward.
