Monolith Productions is creating one of the most anticipated open-world sequels we’ve seen in a while. The first iteration in the Middle-earth series garnered massive appeal and a number of awards. Since Shadow of Mordor though, the studio has been creating something bigger.

That something is, of course, Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Today, WBIE and Monolith dropped a new Shadow of War story trailer for fans to enjoy. You can witness it yourself below. This particular video spotlights the character Shelob. She is “one of the most iconic and powerful villains” in this world. From the sounds of the trailer, she’ll have a major impact on the story gamers discover.

WBIE describes the video, as “viewers witness Shelob, an ancient spirit of darkness, take on human form to grant a vision to Talion about the fate of Middle-earth” and his impending fate. Celebrimbor and Talion seem like they’ll have disagreements over Shelob, all the while “the fate of Minas Ithil and the world of men” hangs in the balance.

For those wondering, Shelob is a fictional giant spider from the world J.R.R. Tolkien created back in the day. She emerges toward the end of book four, second volume of “The Lord of the Rings.” Shelob’s lair rests in Cirith Ungol, which translates into the pass of the spider. This location leads into Mordor, and in fact, is where Gollum leads Frodo and Sam in the hopes that Shelob will kill him.

Shelob is apparently independent of Sauron and his influence, though you might think otherwise. She has been residing in Cirith Ungol longer than even Sauron in the lands of Mordor. Massive spiders killed by Bilbo Baggins in “The Hobbit” were descendants of Shelob’s family.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is the second iteration in the highly popular series. The first, Shadow of Mordor, made its debut back in 2014. WBIE’s Shadow of War launches this coming Oct. 10 for PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One X and PC. Stick around here at We Write Things for more on Shadow of War.
