The Nintendo Switch has finally been announced and revealed. Gamers know essentially what the system will be, and now it is time to look forward. Beyond the specs, pricing and release date, gamers want to know one thing: What Nintendo Switch games are coming to the console soon? Thankfully, there are a number of exciting titles we all can look forward to.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Of all of the games I’ll discuss during this feature, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the one we know the most about. It is undeniably one of the most anticipated games of 2017, and deservedly so. Players will journey back to the land of Hyrule as they encounter diverse regions, wondrous dungeons, fierce enemies and a whole lot of fun.
To break down just how granular Breath of the Wild can get, any number of different ingredients can be made into a potion that either helps or hurts Link. As you play, you will be able to acquire recipes and know what you are making. However, there are dozens and dozens, if not hundreds, of unique recipes you can craft with the various ingredients scattered throughout Hyrule. Potion making is something I know I’ll spend way too much time doing.
Dungeon exploring will of course be a standout part of Breath of the Wild. Each one has its own secrets hidden inside and each has its own dangers as well. Some will be a part of the main storyline, but Nintendo says there will be plenty that are hidden too. Finding the hidden dungeons, secrets and rewards are part of what makes a Zelda game so much fun. I’m thoroughly looking forward to getting lost in the massive world of Hyrule.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch alongside the Nintendo Switch on March 3. The trailer that was shown off during Nintendo’s Switch event can be seen below. The game is arguably Switch’s most important launch title, so we’ll see how things shape up March 3.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Even though it is a game that was released in 2014, Mario Kart 8 is a huge Switch title. Officially dubbed as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the upcoming racer will immediately bring a huge presence to the system around launch. Nintendo Switch might not be receiving the game at launch, but April 28, 2017 isn’t too shabby either.
Nintendo is calling Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the definitive version of the game, so yeah, even Switch will sport remasters. The game will feature a stunning resolution of 1080p. This game looks more spectacular than some other 1080p titles that are out there. Gamers will also be happy to hear the game will run at 60 frames per second with up to two people playing locally.
Four-player local multiplayer will be available and that feature fits with the Switch perfectly, given its portability. Players will be able to enjoy all original tracks that debuted on the Wii U version of the game. The same can be said for all tracks that arrived as part of DLC releases. Characters that will make their first-time appearance in Mario Kart 8 are the Inklings.
There is a lot that could be said about Nintendo Switch’s launch lineup, but having Mario Kart 8 there will help. The game is scheduled to make its debut on April 28, which is just under two months after launch. Having two of Nintendo’s biggest franchises early on will be invaluable to the hardware’s library of content.
Switching gears from Nintendo exclusives for a moment, Yooka-Laylee is a game many are looking forward to. The title was originally pegged to release for the beleaguered Wii U system, but things have changed. Playtonic Games has shifted its development focus to the Switch, and it will be one of the few must-have games early on in the Switch’s life-cycle.
Yooka and Laylee are the two main characters in Yooka-Laylee, however, there are a number of other curious personalities you’ll encounter. There is Capital B, Dr. Puzz and Trowzer, just to name a few. Folks who are worried about being able to play with friends shouldn’t worry at all. Yooka-Laylee will be featuring “buddy mode,” which is Playtonic’s form of local co-op. Also, a two-four player adversarial multiplayer mode is coming that will have up to eight mini-games for players to compete in.
The game will feature a number of massive open-worlds for players to explore. Inside each will be a slew of intriguing puzzles for all to solve, as well as difficult platforming challenges to master. Every world is crafted using an incredibly beautiful art style and they all satisfy the diverse color palate expectation many gamers have.
There aren’t enough games that stir our imaginations and do more than just have us pull a trigger. I’m truly looking forward to experiencing Yooka-Laylee when it launches on April 11,2017. The game will arrive on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Super Mario Odyssey
It has been a long time coming, but Super Mario Odyssey will be the sandbox Mario game we’ve been waiting years for. Over a decade has passed since the last open-world or sandbox style Mario game and the wait was real. While details surrounding Super Mario Odyssey are scarce, it is still one of my most anticipated.
Nintendo is making large worlds for players to journey through. Mario’s cap will be a key ingredient to the gameplay you will find. As we saw in the announcement trailer, Mario’s cap can be used as a means of traversal. It is also fair to assume the cap will be used as part of Mario’s weapon arsenal.
Fall 2017 is when this Nintendo Switch exclusive will launch on the platform. This seems like it will serve as the main fall exclusive for the Switch platform. Of course, it is always possible Nintendo will have more exclusives beyond Super Mario Odyssey launching around then too. For those who wish to get another look at that realistic, dense brown hair, check out Odyssey’s trailer below.
Nintendo has given gamers its own unique twist on the various genres in gaming. Splatoon is the title that gave us a fresh and interesting look at the shooter genre. The debut installment succeeded with flying colors and Nintendo has decided to bring it back once more. The four versus four shooter will return this coming summer in the form of Splatoon 2.
What will be another key release for Nintendo Switch, Splatoon 2 is suddenly only a matter of months away. So what is new in Splatoon 2, you ask? Gamers will see characters with new outfits, weapons and gear. Also coming to the title will be new stages just waiting to be splattered with ink. Much like the original Splatoon, Nintendo said they will support the game post-launch with new content like additional stages.
Nintendo’s Splatoon 2 will certainly be a sight for sore eyes come the summer months. There is no exact release date listed for the upcoming shooter yet, but expect to hear more in the months ahead. Splatoon 2 will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
Switch has a number of other exciting games coming to the console over the course of its first year. While not everything has been announced for the system, there is already so much to look forward to from a games standpoint. March 3 is when Nintendo Switch will launch and there are a slew of amazing titles waiting right behind it. Stick around here at We Write Things for more on Nintendo Switch.
