This coming E3 will be one of the most intriguing shows, if for nothing else than the sheer quantity of new hardware on display. Sony will have PS4 Pro. Nintendo will have Switch. And of course, Microsoft will have Project Scorpio.
E3 2017 is going to reveal many new games, but for Microsoft, it will be all about Project Scorpio. It will have been a year since the system was announced, and this June, Microsoft will finally pull back the veil to show us what the new machine is.
Microsoft has yet to announce specifics regarding Project Scorpio’s price, release date or game lineup. We did get a sneak peek at one game coming to the console, Shadow of War, but more will come. Speaking to We Write Things, Michael Goodman, who is the director of digital media strategies at Strategy Analytics, talked about his expectations for E3 2017.
“E3 2017 will be the coming out show for Project Scorpio. That’s going to be the lead headline and will be what everyone is interested in. [People will want to know] what games will be available on it, what is the launch date and price point.
“Historically, if we look at E3, that is when Microsoft announces its [biggest news]. They do not wait until Gamescom or the Tokyo Game Show. Microsoft is going to be all about Scorpio. They’re going to be about Scorpio. And if you haven’t gotten the message, it’s going to be about Scorpio. I think you could rename Microsoft’s press conference as the Scorpio press conference. Everything else is going to fall by the wayside,” Goodman said.
It remains to be seen if Microsoft will host a pre-E3 press conference for Project Scorpio. This would not be a surprise if they elect to host one simply for the effort of getting some of the obvious announcements out of the way.
Having Project Scorpio’s price and release date already announced prior to E3 2017 would give the system’s games a better chance to shine during the show. Microsoft is hosting its E3 press briefing on Sunday, June 11 at 2 p.m. PT. Stick around here at We Write Things for more on Project Scorpio.
