Nintendo is getting ready to launch Super Mario Run on Dec. 15, first for iOS. The game will eventually come to Android, but this marks the first Mario game to appear on mobile.

These next handful of months will be an extremely intriguing time for Nintendo. Not only are they releasing Super Mario Run this month, but next month they’ll host their highly anticipated Nintendo Switch event for both media and gamers. Following that, Switch is expected to launch sometime in March.

As you may have seen during Nintendo’s reveal trailer of Switch, a new Mario game is coming to the system. It apparently will be a 3D experience, even something similar to Mario Galaxy. The firm is bringing its biggest name to Switch and mobile, and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto spoke about it all.

“We have Super Mario Run releasing now, and it’s already decided that we’ll be making a Mario game for our next system. And similarly with Animal Crossing, the hope is that when we release the Animal Crossing mobile game, we’ll have more people who become familiar with the Animal Crossing world and characters, so that when we next release an Animal Crossing game we’ll have a much larger audience who will be interested,” Miyamoto told The Verge.

It’s unknown right now as to whether or not Mario will be releasing at launch for Switch. You would think Nintendo will have a marquee game like Mario for the console at launch, however, it doesn’t look like we’ll know for sure until the firm’s event in January.

2017 will be a huge year for many companies in gaming. The Switch needs to perform better than the Wii U did, and it might just do that. I’ll add the caveat that there’s a lot left to learn about the system. However, the potential of a home console/handheld hybrid is as big as what the Wii did.

Nintendo will be releasing the Switch sometime in March 2017. They’ll host an event for the new system on Jan. 12, 2017. Stick around here at We Write Things for more on Nintendo.
