Today, you might be waking up under a cloud of disbelief, on a rocket of excitement or maybe even just like you do every other day, unaffected by the events of last night’s election. Donald Trump will be the United States next President. Regardless of who is in office, how our jobs are going, relationship statuses and other issues of life, video games have and will always be a place we can escape to.
Life can sometimes be this crazy, inexplicable day-to-day thing where events happen and it leaves us all stunned. Coming up with the words to justify why something unexpected has happened can often be difficult.
Sometimes the best thing to do in the moment is to escape and take your mind off of what may baffle. If you are feeling like you need to escape or simply take your mind off of current events, here’s five amazing games that are more than worth getting lost in.
Far Cry has introduced gamers to some of the most creative, immersive and entertaining worlds. The series has taken us from islands to mountains and with its most recent iteration, The Stone Age. Far Cry Primal takes us back to when man was not the dominant species, and caution needed to be added into a day’s routine.
Ubisoft created one of the most detailed, deadly and downright enthralling worlds. Whether you are sprinting around the world looking for skins so you can craft the right weapon upgrade, completing side missions, or getting lost in the story, Far Cry Primal sucks you in from the moment you pick up the controller.
Gamers can eventually wield the actions of predators in Far Cry Primal and use them to conquer their foes. From wolves to bears, this adds a fantastic, new twist to the series’ combat. Not only that, but more simple weapons like bow and arrows as well as spears add a new sort of emphasis on precision in combat.
Each character looks incredible during in-game cutscenes, and their performances fit very well within the prehistoric time period. The game has a cast of characters that make this world all the more intriguing. Far Cry Primal is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. For those looking to pick up the game, it is available on Amazon for under $30 right now.
If you are looking for video game worlds that are downright beautiful, while at the same time being mentally tortuous, then The Witness may be a great world for you to jump into. Jonathan Blow’s new puzzler is one of great challenge and an experience that feels remarkably rewarding.
The Witness does not give you the rules of its world. There are no hints to how a puzzle works or how they change from area to area. Gamers must learn on their own and think for themselves. It’s amazing how games these days lead gamers along, showing them a path to follow. Well, The Witness doesn’t and it is refreshingly difficult.
The open-world of this game is gorgeous, but each area has different rules for you to figure out. The best way to describe the gameplay of The Witness is it is like learning a new language. Only the twist is that you are teaching yourself rather than someone telling you what everything means.
The Witness provides incredible moments of satisfaction, frustration and excitement. This is a game that will challenge the way you think and perceive game worlds, and you will feel empowered for having completed it. The Witness is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Over the past decade, no world has created a greater sense of immersion than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This RPG brings gamers into the world of Skyrim, and provides folks with 100s of hours of playtime.
Who you want to be and what you want your character to look like are all just a few of the parts that are central to Skyrim‘s experience. Choosing how you progress, the skills you are learned in and the type of story you create are all part of personalizing this world.
There are many, many experiences you can find in Skyrim, and choice is at the center of them all. How you treat the characters you encounter in Skyrim makes a significant difference in their behavior towards you. Gamers can choose to steal and kill or they can choose to align and help. What kind of hero will you be?
Skyrim is a world dripping with big and small stories to be told. If you haven’t had the chance to play Skyrim before, then picking up The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition on PS4, Xbox One and PC now is more than worth a purchase. The collection includes all previously released DLC as well as mods for console players. Keep an eye out for Black Friday sales as I’d expect the price of Skyrim Special Edition to drop in the coming days.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is arguably one of the best games you’ll play in 2016. It contains a narrative that asks gamers to put a serious stamp of personalization on it through their choices and actions, and it will leave you in awe.
Back for a third time, Adam Jensen finds himself in a world that is dripping with prejudice and poisonous perception. Terrorist groups seek to destroy the world or at least gradually break it down. Jensen tries to get to the bottom of tragic attacks, and the answers he finds along the way aren’t always what he or you expect.
Players must choose the augmentations they want. These will define your play style and ultimately your experience in the game. Choice is woven into Jensen’s progression as a character, and it absolutely is tattooed in the plot you witness. Decisions have massive consequences and how you handle specific situations have lasting, serious effects on the game.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided makes you feel the gravity of your choices as well as any game I’ve played before. It could be one of the best games to get lost in this holiday season. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is available now for PS4, Xbox One and PC. You can pick up the game on Amazon for under $40 right now.
Last and certainly not least, Forza Horizon 3 is unquestionably the best racer of 2016. One could make the fair argument that the racer is also the best open-world game of the year. Playground Games has brought forth one of the most fun, thrilling and satisfying experiences ever on Xbox One.
The open-world of Australia is as diverse as any we’ve seen from an open-world racer before. Landscapes are unique, whether you are racing across a sandy beach, breezy coastline, lush jungle or rolling hills. No matter where you drive, Forza Horizon 3 is filled with incredible gameplay.
The sheer number of cars you can unlock, the amount of races or challenges you can complete, and the quantity of progression systems all make this game something worth disappearing into. Depth is everywhere in the game’s systems and each is quite easy to access.
Forza Horizon 3 is a phenomenal open-world experience, and whether you are a racing fan or not, I think this is a world you’ll want to escape to for a while. Forza Horizon 3 is available now on Xbox One and Windows 10. You can pick up the game on Amazon for under $50 now. Stick around here at We Write Things for more on video games.
